St. Matthew Passion (chorus and string parts), [1829]
File
MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn b. 8
String parts copied from MS. St. Matthew Passion, MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn c. 68 for the performance at Berlin, 1829. One copy of each part was made by Eduard Rietz, including the numbers F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy first selected only. From Rietz's parts Fr. Knuth copied parts for Coro I, the words being added by Julius Rietz, and another writer copied those for Coro II. The hand of F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy appears to be editing the parts for performance. Other added marks were in some cases made by the players in rehearsal. In both orchestras there are parts for 3 desks of first violins, 3 second violins, 2 violas; Coro I has 2 Bass parts numbered 1 and 3 (see MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn b. 9, 3). Coro II has 1 Bass part numbered 1.
